Montes del Este
Eucalyptus and pine planted on 4,300 hectares of degraded pasture in centre-east Uruguay, grazed under the trees, with just over a million credits issued across two verifications.

Integrity
A mature, twice-verified afforestation project with a long record on the registry, run by Uruguay's longest-standing carbon developer.
Draft profile, pending review
-
Additional
Afforestation of degraded grazing land under the CDM-derived AR-ACM0003 methodology; the project also produces timber, so the carbon finance case rests on the registered project document (to be read before any sale).
-
Permanent
A crediting period of 2016 to 2116 and a forest estate managed for the long term; silvopastoral grazing keeps the land in use between rotations.
-
Measured
Validated and verified by SCS Global Services under the Verified Carbon Standard; two monitoring periods closed (2016–2020 and 2020–2024).
-
People and nature
Cattle graze in the older stands and on unplanted land, so local farming continues; direct and indirect jobs in a rural region.

What the project does
Montes del Este plants eucalyptus, and on a smaller scale pine, on former pasture in the centre-east of Uruguay, in the departments of Cerro Largo and Treinta y Tres. Of the 6,973 hectares in the project, 4,300 are planted. Cattle graze in the older stands and on the land between them, so the farms stay farms. Verra registered the project as VCS 2576 under the AR-ACM0003 methodology, with a crediting period that runs from 2016 to 2116.
Two monitoring periods have closed, 2016 to 2020 and 2020 to 2024, each validated and verified by SCS Global Services, and just over a million credits have been issued against the carbon measured in the growing stands. The developer’s long-term estimate is 1,842,809 tons of CO₂e over the life of the project. Because the plantations also produce timber, Carbosur publishes a statement on how the wood products and the carbon credits are accounted for; that document is part of the review before any credit from this project is offered.
