Integrity
Our home project. We have worked in Colombia's Orinoquía for fifteen years and know this land, its people and its developer first-hand.
Draft profile, pending review
-
Additional
The land was degraded savanna with little natural regeneration and no legal requirement to reforest. The planting depends entirely on carbon finance.
-
Permanent
A 30-year management commitment, fire prevention and secure land tenure, with 20% of credits held in a buffer against loss, above the average for reforestation projects.
-
Measured
Growth is measured on the ground and audited under Gold Standard rules before any credit is issued. Rated BBB by Sylvera and AA by MSCI; FSC certified.
-
People and nature
Native vegetation protected along rivers and watersheds, 110 threatened species observed or monitored, 381 jobs paid above the local minimum wage, 30% of them held by women.

What the project does
In the remote Vichada department of Colombia’s Orinoco basin, degraded savanna is being planted back to forest. The Vichada Climate Reforestation Project (Gold Standard GS4221) manages 106,549 hectares, of which 21,429 have been planted so far, and protects the native vegetation along the rivers and watersheds that cross it.
The project began as a timber plantation and has become a conservation project: a strict no-deforestation policy, fire brigades drawn from the local communities, and monitoring of the 110 threatened species seen on its land. Its 381 jobs, most of them in forest management, are paid above the local minimum wage, and the profit from its credits funds education, health and infrastructure in the communities around it.
